World War I Maxim #7490 |
C&R German belt-fed machine gun – World War I Spandau Arsenal MG08/15 watercooled, belt-fed machine
gun. This gun, #7490, is dated 1917 and has seen use. It has light rust on the exterior which would
clean up well with a soft bead blasting. Interior of the receiver has been cleaned but shows signs
of heavy rust, although internal parts are in good condition. This gun is fully functional. The
green paint on the barrel jacket is from the field camouflage applied by soldiers. However, it would
look better being cleaned off in the bead blast process.
This Maxim shoots the economical 8mm Mauser
ammunition which can be purchased for 5 cents per round, much easier on your pocketbook than 303
British in the Vickers. Externally this gun appears all matching but some internal parts have been
replaced with better condition parts. Excellent bore. To make up for the need for bead blasting,
this Maxim comes with original drum hanger and original drum! It also comes with cloth belt, although
I recommend you purchase steel belts from IMA.
Water coded Maxim machineguns can be fired either with water or dry. Just remember, when firing dry,
shoot short bursts and let it cool down every so often. If you want to shoot one hundred round "bursts"
or a full belt all at once, use packing string and put water in the jacket.
Reproduction bipod upper attachment brackets are available for $95.00 from several sources. These can
be welded to a variety of tripods or mounts to give real versatility to your shooting stance. Also
www.blackrivermilitaris.com sells spade grip assemblies for the 08|15 Maxim.
This C&R Maxim machine gun is fully transferable
and fully functional. It is C&R listed. Priced at $10,000 Sold in March of 2005
